Many amazing things like books, movies, and tv shows come from creative writing. Writing is an amazing experience and it’s one of my favorite things to do. My name is Anne Marie Wieck and I am sixteen years old.
My reason for writing and publishing my work is not for money. I don’t know if anyone reading this is an avid reader but here’s a comparison. When you get deeply invested in a great book, the whole world around you disappears. You are engulfed in a new world of customs, languages, and people. For me, that is exactly what happens as a writer except because the world is all my head, it’s always with me. When you pick up a novel in the bookstore, you share that book’s reality with thousands of other people, but with writing, it’s my own personal universe. I want to publish my book to share that with everyone, to see if others imagine it the same way I do. Writing is a wonderful way of expressing creativity, but so is reading, because when you read you create your version of the book’s world. That’s why I love books so much; the two-way street between author and reader.
When I started writing my book, Ignite, I didn’t know that I was writing a novel. I know that sounds strange, but I honestly had no idea. It had been over a year since I’d written anything, and I missed it, so one day I decided to sit down and start a new short story. After a while, the story still hadn’t reached a natural end, and I started to realize that I could be writing something much more substantial. It took me a while to realize exactly what I wanted the book to be about, but this is the general idea:
The protagonist, Momentoyia “Mo,” grew up in a small village with absolutely nothing extraordinary in her life. That is, until one day when her home is burned to the ground, killing her family. She is forced to flee, left with a sinking feeling of guilt and and a sense of bewilderment.
When she realises that she must start fresh with no one by her side but a fox and a strangely familiar boy, she finds that almost everything she knew was a lie. Tasked with figuring out her strange new abilities, she’s left to stop a darkness arising in her new home.
In that darkness lies an ancient and cold hatred. Momentoyia learns that magic is very real and that some people will twist it. With all that she has come to know on the line, she must risk it all to save her new family.
With this first novel completed, I’m working on the sequel now and plan to finish the trilogy. Long term, I would love to be an author full-time and make a career of writing. In university I’ll get a liberal arts degree and take English literature as well as creative writing. Journalism is also something I’m interested in; basically anything to do with writing would be something I’d consider.
Writing is something I am extremely passionate about and I want to share it with anyone and everyone. It’s what I want to do for the rest of my life: creating, sharing, and moulding. It would mean a great deal to me if you picked up my new book, Ignite, as soon as it’s out!
